Mary E. (Hackett) Stevenson, age 91, a longtime resident of Ayer died Friday, February 22, 2013 at the Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer after a period of declining health, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late James L. Stevenson who died in 1992.

She was born in Pepperell on January 21, 1922, the daughter of the late Edson and Madeline (Leary) Hackett. She was educated in the Pepperell School System and graduated from Pepperell High School in 1940. In her earlier years, she was employed by AT&T. Prior to her retirement, she was a switchboard operator at the Nashoba Community Hospital in Ayer for over 20 years. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Ayer and was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

She leaves three sons, Mark Robert Stevenson, James Michael Stevenson and Edward Stevenson, all of Ayer; a sister, Rita King and her husband, Harold of Pepperell; three grandchildren, Samantha, Matthew and Megan. She is pre-deceased by a sister, Mildred Bushey as well as by a brother, Leonard Hackett.

A funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Parish, worshipping at St. Joseph Church, 28 Tarbell Street, Pepperell. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, Pepperell. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Nashoba Nursing Service and Hospice, 2 Shaker Road, Suite D225, Shirley, MA 01464
